Reminder: Thursday, Oct. 17 is an early dismissal day, with students dismissed three hours early. Schools are closed Friday, Oct. 18 for the Maryland State Education Association Convention.
Good evening Gator Families. This is your Dean of Students, Mrs. Parr.
Let’s take a look at the upcoming events for this week. On Wednesday, October 16th from 5:30-7:30 pm we have our Fall PAC and Strategy Workshop Night. Also on Wednesday, we will wear PINK for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Thursday, October 17th is an early dismissal day for Wicomico County Public Schools. Our dismissal will begin at 12:35 pm, so please plan accordingly. Schools will be closed on Friday, October 18th.
Attention families of bus rider students. Riding a bus is a privilege and should be treated as such. Any time a driver deems it necessary, a driver may suspend a student’s riding privilege for 1 day without approval from the school. The contractor/driver must contact the parent/guardian, stating the reason for removal and the day the student may not ride the school bus. The driver will also notify administration and administration will also follow up with the parent. More information regarding bus expectations and procedures, as well as the bus tracker app, can be found in our monthly newsletter at https://secure.smore.com/n/dtpgvk
When picking up one of our little Gators, please have your ID ready as we will be checking before the student will be allowed to leave the building. If someone other than the parent/guardian is picking up the child, a note from the parent/guardian is required.
As a reminder, please do not drop students off or allow them to walk to school prior to 8:30 am as we do not have staff on site to ensure their safety.
Please make sure you are checking our Facebook, Website, and Monthly Newsletter for the latest information about things happening at Glen Avenue. We look forward to seeing your scholars at 8:30 tomorrow morning. Thank you and have a great evening.
Letter days for elementary students (including those at Pittsville Elementary and Middle) are posted before each week of classes during the school year. The schedule of letter days can be found on school web pages in Live Feed, on the school system's main website in Live Feed and the home page gallery, and on social media. Early Dismissal and School Closing:

On Oct. 4, the 2024-2025 Wicomico Teacher of the Year, Debbie Reynolds (Wicomico Middle), joined the other 23 local teachers of the year from across the state at the Maryland Teacher of the Year Gala in Hunt Valley. Wicomico Schools had a fantastic time celebrating and supporting its top teacher, who in addition to teaching at Wicomico Middle is a graduate of James M. Bennett High and a former student of Bennett Middle, Prince Street Elementary, and Pittsville Elementary and Miiddle.. Thank you Ms. Reynolds for being such a fantastic representative of Wicomico County Public Schools, where our students are Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow.
Ms. Reynolds will continue to serve as Wicomico Teacher of the Year into April, when the 2025-2026 Wicomico Teacher of the Year is announced. That outstanding teacher is teaching in one of our schools right now, and your chance to nominate a deserving teacher for recognition is coming soon, starting Nov. 1.

WCPS Code of Conduct states that students in elementary school are not to have cellphones in school. Please assist us with enforcing this by checking your scholar’s bookbag and making sure they are not bringing the phone to school. This includes smart watches, iPads, tablets, iPods, electronic games, etc. If you need to speak with your scholar during the day, please call the school and we will bring your student to the office to speak privately with you. Inappropriate items will be confiscated until the end of the day or retained by administration until a parent/guardian can reclaim the item.
Please remember if there are any changes in your students regular transportation, the office must be notified in writing (note or email) by 2 PM. If someone other than the parent/guardian is picking up the child, a note from the parent/guardian is required. When you arrive to pick up a student, please make sure you have your ID ready.

To go along with the Mystery Science anchor phenomenon for our unit, Ms. Glading's class was transformed into a cave, and the students all wore hard hats to explore the Bracken Cave in San Antonio, TX. As Ms. Glading's scholars learn about animals in this unit, they will learn more about who might live in the cave. Right now, they know that something lives there, but they aren't sure what does. By the end of the unit, the scholars will be able to solve the mystery!

The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) has now released data for the following subjects: English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
This week, your child will receive their individual score report(s) from their teacher on TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24TH. Please expect them to share this important information with you.
If you have any questions or need further assistance in understanding your child’s performance, or the overall school results, feel free to contact your child’s school or reach out to Karen Hitch, Supervisor of Assessment and Accountability, in our district Office of Assessment and Accountability at 410-677-4477.
