Parent Message - Week of October 7-11 Good evening Gator Families. This is your Dean of Students, Mrs. Parr. We had a busy week last week with events happening at our school. We hope that you were able to attend the Hispanic Heritage Celebration and the McDonalds Spirit Night. Wicomico Schools is collaborating with the Wicomico County Health Department to have convenient, school-based FluMist vaccine clinics in all of our elementary schools to support the health of young students. Our school’s FluMist clinic will be between 9:30-11:30 am on Monday, October 7th. If you would like for your child to receive the FluMist at school, please register the student at this link: https://wicomicocounty.as.me/glenavenueelemFluMistclinic . More information can be found in our October Monthly Newsletter that was posted on Facebook and Talking Points. On Tuesday, October 8th, there will be a Board of Education meeting at 1:30 pm at Long Avenue. Do you want to know what your child is learning in math and how to help them? Please visit this link for grade level information. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HMdKbbh15EdUxD_9ltbXjqdXjCdnqEn6DGA_ey8vZuY/edit?usp=sharing Families can watch two videos for each lesson, see lesson explanations and visuals, as well as getting an idea of a math activity that you can do at home with your student. This will help connect you with the learning! WCPS Code of Conduct states that students in elementary school are not to have cellphones in school. Please assist us with enforcing this by checking your scholar’s bookbag and making sure they are not bringing the phone to school. This includes smart watches, iPads, tablets, iPods, electronic games, etc. If you need to speak with your scholar during the day, please call the school and we will bring your student to the office to speak privately with you. Inappropriate items will be confiscated until the end of the day or retained by administration until a parent/guardian can reclaim the item. Please remember if there are any changes in your students regular transportation, the office must be notified in writing (note or email) by 2 PM. If someone other than the parent/guardian is picking up the child, a note from the parent/guardian is required. When you arrive to pick up a student, please make sure you have your ID ready. Please make sure you are checking our Facebook, our Website, and our Monthly Newsletter for the latest information about things happening at Glen Avenue. We look forward to seeing your scholars at 8:30 tomorrow morning. Thank you and have a great evening.

To go along with the Mystery Science anchor phenomenon for our unit, Ms. Glading's class was transformed into a cave, and the students all wore hard hats to explore the Bracken Cave in San Antonio, TX. As Ms. Glading's scholars learn about animals in this unit, they will learn more about who might live in the cave. Right now, they know that something lives there, but they aren't sure what does. By the end of the unit, the scholars will be able to solve the mystery!

Good evening Gator families. This is your assistant principal Mrs. Binns. This week will be another exciting week at Glen. If your student has an instrument and you have received a letter from their music teacher Ms. Morris, please make sure your student brings their instrument tomorrow, Monday September 30th. On Tuesday, October 1st, we will have our annual Hispanic Heritage Night celebration from 5:30-7:00 PM here at the school. The Glen Avenue staff will be at your service on Thursday, October 3rd at the McDonald’s on Tilghman Rd. from 5-7:30 PM, for our Spirit Night fundraiser. A portion of the night’s proceeds will benefit Glen Avenue Elementary School. Please remember if there is any change in your student’s regular transportation, the office must be notified by note or email before 2 PM. Our doors open at 8:30 AM. Please do not drop off or allow your students to arrive before that time, because there is no staff on duty to insure student safety. We are starting to see students too early in the morning. Dismissal begins at 3:35 PM. Be on time to pick up your student if they are a car rider. Students must be picked up no later than 3:45 PM. You attention to this matter is of utmost importance and a safety issue. If you are picking up or visiting your student, please have a legal photo ID ready for the office staff to register you in. We check everyone’s ID, so please have it ready. We look forward to another Gator-ific week. Thank you.

Dear Parents/Guardians, This is an important message regarding the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) 2024 tests and results. Your child may have participated in the MCAP assessments this past Spring. This week, your child will receive their individual score report(s) from their teacher on TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24TH. Please expect them to share this important information with you. If you have any questions or need further assistance in understanding your child’s performance, or the overall school results, feel free to contact your child’s school or reach out to Karen Hitch, Supervisor of Assessment and Accountability, in our district Office of Assessment and Accountability at 410-677-4477.
