Stem Saturdays
Good evening Gator Families. This is your Dean of Students, Mrs. Parr.  The weather is starting to cool off and students are wearing jackets and coats more often. Please consider putting your child’s name inside their coats or jackets so that if it is left at school, we can help return it to the proper owner. There is a lost and found in the cafeteria that students can check for their missing items during lunch time. A few reminders about the WCPS Dress Code. Hats and hoods should not be worn in the building. Shoes must be worn at all times and must have a strap on the back. Slides, flip flops, and any variation of slippers are not appropriate for school and should not be worn. The Blueprint for Maryland’s Future is a once in a lifetime opportunity to transform Maryland’s education system for all students, regardless of where they live. When the Blueprint passed in 2021, a set of policies and dedicated funding were established for the next ten years to improve outcomes across the state. The investment and partnership across Maryland provides opportunity for change, growth, and success for our students for many years to come. To view more information regarding the Maryland Blueprint, please visit our website and monthly newsletter.  Mark your calendars for our annual Trunk or Treat event on Tuesday, October 29th starting at 5 pm. The trunks will be set up behind the school.  Please continue to check our Facebook, Website, and Monthly Newsletter for the latest information about things happening at Glen Avenue. Thank you and have a great evening.

School schedule information for October 17 and 18
Good evening Gator Families. This is your Dean of Students, Mrs. Parr. Let’s take a look at the upcoming events for this week. On Wednesday, October 16th from 5:30-7:30 pm we have our Fall PAC and Strategy Workshop Night. Also on Wednesday, we will wear PINK for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Thursday, October 17th is an early dismissal day for Wicomico County Public Schools. Our dismissal will begin at 12:35 pm, so please plan accordingly. Schools will be closed on Friday, October 18th. Attention families of bus rider students. Riding a bus is a privilege and should be treated as such. Any time a driver deems it necessary, a driver may suspend a student’s riding privilege for 1 day without approval from the school. The contractor/driver must contact the parent/guardian, stating the reason for removal and the day the student may not ride the school bus. The driver will also notify administration and administration will also follow up with the parent. More information regarding bus expectations and procedures, as well as the bus tracker app, can be found in our monthly newsletter at https://secure.smore.com/n/dtpgvk When picking up one of our little Gators, please have your ID ready as we will be checking before the student will be allowed to leave the building. If someone other than the parent/guardian is picking up the child, a note from the parent/guardian is required. As a reminder, please do not drop students off or allow them to walk to school prior to 8:30 am as we do not have staff on site to ensure their safety. Please make sure you are checking our Facebook, Website, and Monthly Newsletter for the latest information about things happening at Glen Avenue. We look forward to seeing your scholars at 8:30 tomorrow morning. Thank you and have a great evening.

We hope that you were able to attend the Hispanic Heritage Celebration and the McDonalds Spirit Night. Wicomico Schools is collaborating with the Wicomico County Health Department to have convenient, school-based FluMist vaccine clinics in all of our elementary schools to support the health of young students. Our school’s FluMist clinic will be between 9:30-11:30 am on Monday, October 7th. If you would like for your child to receive the FluMist at school, please register the student at this link: https://wicomicocounty.as.me/glenavenueelemFluMistclinic . More information can be found in our October Monthly Newsletter that was posted on Facebook and Talking Points. On Tuesday, October 8th, there will be a Board of Education meeting at 1:30 pm at Long Avenue. Do you want to know what your child is learning in math and how to help them? Please visit this link for grade level information. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HMdKbbh15EdUxD_9ltbXjqdXjCdnqEn6DGA_ey8vZuY/edit?usp=sharing Families can watch two videos for each lesson, see lesson explanations and visuals, as well as getting an idea of a math activity that you can do at home with your student. This will help connect you with the learning! WCPS Code of Conduct states that students in elementary school are not to have cellphones in school. Please assist us with enforcing this by checking your scholar’s bookbag and making sure they are not bringing the phone to school. This includes smart watches, iPads, tablets, iPods, electronic games, etc. If you need to speak with your scholar during the day, please call the school and we will bring your student to the office to speak privately with you. Inappropriate items will be confiscated until the end of the day or retained by administration until a parent/guardian can reclaim the item. Please remember if there are any changes in your students regular transportation, the office must be notified in writing (note or email) by 2 PM. If someone other than the parent/guardian is picking up the child, a note from the parent/guardian is required. When you arrive to pick up a student, please make sure you have your ID ready. To go along with the Mystery Science anchor phenomenon for our unit, Ms. Glading's class was transformed into a cave, and the students all wore hard hats to explore the Bracken Cave in San Antonio, TX. As Ms. Glading's scholars learn about animals in this unit, they will learn more about who might live in the cave. Right now, they know that something lives there, but they aren't sure what does. By the end of the unit, the scholars will be able to solve the mystery!
